Though the Governor's Awards for Local Government Excellence award presentation, scheduled for April 6, was postponed due to the COVID-19 measures in place throughout the state, the award recipients were selected.
This year's designated award recipient for the individual category was PMAA's Immediate Past President, Craig A. Bubb, executive director of Municipal Authority of the Borough of Lewistown (MABL).
The Governor's Center for Local Government Services traditionally hosts a Local Government Day celebration, featuring the presentation of the Governor's Awards for Local Government Excellence and recognizing local officials for their successes in undertaking innovative initiatives to improve the quality of life in their communities.
Nominations for the Governor's Award for Local Government Excellence are awarded based on the following categories:

Craig has a wealth of Hands-on knowledge with regards to the daily operations of the entire MABL system. From December 2004 to the present, Craig has served as the Executive Director of the Authority. In this capacity he is responsible for the daily operation in the field, operations at the treatment plant and dam, as well as oversight of office personnel. The Authority has 25 full time employees, serves nearly 11,000 customers, and has a $5 million operating budget.
Craig is involved in most of Lewistown's water main extension projects in the early stages. He is determined to provide water service to any request received whether it is residential, commercial, public or industrial.
Craig is very community centered and has worked with a local industrial development group to encourage new businesses to settle in the area. A few of the recent projects that have been completed:
Derry Heights Land Development Project (Derry Township, Mifflin County) -- A new medical facility has been constructed and future plans are underway for additional commercial property development.
Central Pennsylvania Clinic (Union Township, Mifflin County) -- A medical home for special needs children and adults serving the Amish and Mennonite community in Central Pa.
Residential Development (Armagh Township, Mifflin County) -- Community development providing affordable duplex or single family housing.
Sheetz (Burnham Borough, Brown Township, Mifflin County) -- Employment opportunity and commerce for our community.
Craig has also been involved in critical PennDOT projects to update MABL infrastructure with cost share programs.
His community service attitude as well as his proactive approach to maintaining aging infrastructure keeps affordable, quality water flowing to customers in eight townships and boroughs in Mifflin County. His community project work encourages new businesses to settle in the area, benefiting the community by providing medical resources, affordable housing, and employment opportunities.
