The law allows whole and reduced-fat milk in federally-funded school lunches and exempts milk from federal saturated fat limits. Whole milk is excellent for children. Fat content is crucial for brain development, nutrient absorption and sustained growth. Whole milk provides high-quality protein, calcium and potassium essential for strong bones and muscles. Whole milk contains 3.25% milk fat by weight so that means it is 97% fat free. The next time you reach for milk, make sure it is whole milk, so you get all the proper amounts of nutrients and healthy fats.
