UNIVERSITY PARK -- Greenhouse growers, nursery operators and garden center managers and employees interested in learning about the latest research-based information and management practices for their businesses can attend an upcoming Penn State Extension workshop.
The "Central Pennsylvania Greenhouse Meeting" will be Dec. 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bread of Life Restaurant, 30644 Rte. 35 N., McAlisterville.
The workshop is designed to deliver research-based guidance on producing and managing annuals, bedding plants, perennials and houseplants with practical insights tailored to greenhouse operations. Guest speakers will include Steve Bogash, horticultural consultant at Steve Bogash Consulting and former Penn State Extension educator, Krystal Snyder, horticulture extension educator, and Joni Davis, worker protection standard specialist for the Pennsylvania Office of Rural Health.
Along with strengthening production knowledge, attendees will have the opportunity to gain pesticide recertification credits in the following categories: core, private, 6, 18 and 22.
The event will cover:
• Identification of common diseases, insects and mites.
• Scouting for nutritional problems in crops.
• Understanding the importance of water quality.
• Effective use of biocontrols.
• Updates on the worker protection standard.
Organizers encourage attendees to register by 11:45 p.m. Dec. 8. The registration fee is $35. Registration includes morning coffee and lunch.
