MIFFLINTOWN -- Four-H is different from many other youth programs because it focuses on agriculture, science and engineering and technology.
Plus, it also looks at healthy living and citizenship through projects like raising animals, clothing and textiles, foods and nutrition, shooting sports and seeing eye puppy service projects.
Whew, that was a mouthful albeit an important one.
Four-H also continues to appeal to today's youth because the programs offered are what kids need to thrive in adulthood, especially in rural areas like the Juniata Valley.
"We are thrilled to celebrate Pennsylvania 4-H Week and recognize the incredible achievements of our members and volunteers," said Emily Shoop, Extension Educator with Pennsylvania 4-H. "This week is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our 4-H community, and we look forward to showcasing the positive impact of 4-H programs across the state."
Leaders say alumni tell them that 4-H has a lasting impact on their lives, providing them with many of the skills needed to be successful. Skills like public speaking, service to others and how to work as a member of a team.
With 4-H playing such an important role, the Juniata County 4-H chapter is excited that March 16-22 has been recognized as Pennsylvania 4-H Week.
This week-long event will highlight the achievements of 4-H members, volunteers and supporters from across the state, showcasing the positive impact of 4-H programs on youth development and community engagement.
The event has been recognized throughout the Juniata Valley. On March 11, Juniata County Commissioners Alice Gray, Todd Graybill and Mark Partner signed a proclamation declaring the week of March 16 as Pennsylvania 4-H Week in Juniata County during their weekly meeting. The Mifflin County Commissioners signed a similar proclamation during their March 6 meeting.
Additionally, Juniata County 4-H members Morgan Imes and Jamie Walters received Youth Spotlight Awards from the Juniata County Prevention Board, and those in attendance heard updates about the program from Shoop.
Throughout 4-H Week, Pennsylvania 4-H will launch a social media campaign to share stories, photos and videos of 4-H members and their accomplishments. Follow the hashtag #PA4HWeek to join the celebration and stay updated on the latest events.
