UNIVERSITY PARK -- An upcoming Penn State Extension workshop aimed at beef producers and new and beginning farmers will explore the advantages and challenges of artificial insemination versus natural service in beef cattle breeding, with insights from a breeder who has worked with both methods.
The "Northern Tier Beef Meeting: No Bull About Breeding Season" will be offered at three locations on different dates in April:
• Montrose: 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. April 15, Susquehanna County Library, 458 High School Road.
• Towanda: 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. April 16, Bradford County office of Penn State Extension, 200 Main St., Suite 3.
• Wellsboro: 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. April 17, Tokishi Center, 124 Nypum Drive.
Instructors will discuss the value and practicality of artificial insemination compared to natural service in beef cattle breeding. Participants will learn what works -- and what doesn't -- when it comes to these breeding methods. This interactive session offers valuable perspectives for producers looking to make informed decisions about the best breeding strategies for their herds, organizers noted.
The Pennsylvania Beef Producers Working Group is sponsoring this workshop.
Penn State Extension offers this event at no charge, but registering in advance is encouraged. Light snacks will be provided.
