REEDSVILLE -- The Big Valley FFA chapter held its annual FFA banquet on May 10, 2024 at the Reedsville Fire Hall. Nearly 140 people, including parents, families and supporters, were in attendance.
The event was held to celebrate the achievements and accomplishments of the Big Valley FFA chapter over the past school year. The meal was donated by the Wilson family, with pork donated by Mike Kauffman.
"It took a village to pull off this event, but ultimately, it was the members that made it happen. They subdivided themselves into committees and worked together to pull it all off," said Nicolette Cusate, Big Valley FFA advisor.
During the programing, every member was recognized for their efforts and accomplishments this year, and awards were given to members that went above and beyond. The Star Greenhand Award recipient was Lillian Breon, Star Chapter Award recipient was Montana McKee, and the Star Keystone recipient was Kendra Kohler.
In addition to the Star Awards, there were also special awards given to members. The Rising Star recipient was Kendra Harlon, Mentorship Award recipient was Claudia Rheam, and the Dedication Award recipient was Hayley Carson.
Each senior was recognized for their achievements throughout their time in the organization with a stole to don at the Academy Awards Night on May 21, 2024.
Among that work was 26 hours of community service, two overnight trips, three state conventions, 1,300 miles traveled, and a total of nearly 3,400 hours working on their Supervised Agricultural Experiences – which are the projects students do outside of school to reinforce concepts learned in the classroom.
At the end of the banquet, the 2024 – 2025 Big Valley officer team was elected to serve as the student leaders for the upcoming school year. They went through an application process and interview to serve in their new roles. Montana McKee, a senior next year, was elected to serve as chapter president.
Two other members were elected into leadership positions, junior Alivia Snook and sophomore Lillian Breon.
