Parchment paper curling up? Wrinkle it up!

Dear Heloise: I like to use parchment paper when baking, especially when something might bubble over onto a baking pan. However, the paper is difficult to lay without it curling up. My solution is to just crumble it up a bit, straighten it out, and lay it on the baking sheet. The wrinkles don’t matter. Then after you’re done, just pick the paper up and throw it away. It’s very helpful when lining the bottoms of loaf pans. –– Marlyn W., in Hedgesville, W.Va. Marlyn, I like to use paper weights when I can to hold down curly parchment paper. –– Heloise SEND A GREAT HINT ...

Supplement use to lower heart risk not backed by evidence

DEAR DR. ROACH: I recently had a CT scan, and my score was 184. My cardiologist put me on 40 mg of Lipitor, which I reluctantly took for three weeks until I developed severe pain in my feet and hands. I stopped taking it, and the pain went away. I’m a 64-year-old male in excellent shape. I’m currently taking a chelation supplement, vitamin K2 (MK-7), and red rice yeast with CoQ10. Do you have any suggestions for the treatment of my issue? –– A.D. ANSWER: I’m sorry to say that I disagree with all of your choices. Lipitor is a reasonable choice for the prevention of heart ...

When to hold on, when to move on

Dear Annie: My husband and I have been together for 13 years and married for 10. We’ve always had what I believed was a stable, loving relationship. In all that time, we’ve only had a handful of arguments –– certainly nothing major or frequent. But recently, during a heated disagreement, he said something that completely shattered me. In the middle of our fight, he looked at me and said, “The last 10 years have been a miserable marriage.” I was stunned. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. It felt like the floor dropped out from under me. Afterward, he apologized and ...

Trump draws criticism with AI image of himself as the pope ahead of conclave

NEW YORK (AP) — President Donald Trump posted an artificial intelligence-generated image of himself dressed as pope as the mourning of Pope Francis continues and just days before the conclave to elect his successor is set to begin. Trump’s action drew rebukes from a group representing Catholic bishops in New York and among Italians. The image, shared Friday night on Trump’s Truth Social site and later reposted by the White House on its official X account, raised eyebrows on social media and at the Vatican, which is still in the period of nine days of official mourning following ...

ChatGPT is actually not your friend

I have been deep in conversation with ChatGPT, asking all kinds of questions. Are there direct flights between the U.S. and Queretaro, Mexico? Will Apple give me credit for a 2014 iMac? What color goes with teal? What was France’s GDP in 1998? My fascination with ChatGPT has become a household joke. “All right, Froma,” we imagine Chat saying. “What do you want now? Do you think you’re the only one around here?” But the teal question is where our relationship started cooling. Chat dutifully listed what goes well with the blue-green color and then asked, “Are you thinking ...
