The difficulty with plastic centers around added dyes and the lack of machinery needed for various plastic types. • Recycling rules and ...

Husband must address triggers

Dear Annie: My husband does not like my sister. He says she reminds him too much of his ex-wife. It has now come to the point where he doesn’t want to be around her. This is making it very difficult to see my whole family. They live in Canada, and we are planning a trip there to visit them, seeing as my father’s mental health is getting bad. My husband refuses to go see my sister while we are there. When I told my sister that this is a special trip to spend time with my parents and we won’t have time to go to her place, which is another three-hour drive away, she got pretty ...

Low DEXA calls for bone-growth medicine

DEAR DR. ROACH: I am a 74-year-old man. I have a DEXA score of -3.3. I take 1,200 mg of calcium with vitamin D daily. I lift weights and swim two to three times a week. My doctor put me on Prolia, and I had six months of infections. He switched me to Fosamax, and my blood pressure was 201/121 mmHg. I found a Phase 4 clinical trial showing that Fosamax can cause high blood pressure, but my doctor says that Fosamax “doesn’t cause high blood pressure.” I’m reluctant to try the other bisphosphonates for fear that they will do the same as Fosamax. Do I try the other drugs one at a ...

Bringing your own to-go box when going out

Dear Heloise: My husband and I are in the habit of taking our own to-go box with us when we go out to eat. We almost always have leftovers. Just a simple plastic container like mostly everyone has in the kitchen will do. We also keep a similar container in each car for the few times that we forget to take a container with us from the house. Early in the process of making this a habit, we had to walk back to the car a few times to get the container, but now I almost never go out to eat without my purse and my to-go box. This habit keeps a lot of trash out of landfills. –– Linda, in ...
