DLI receives $100,000 for grants towards business improvement

From staff reports LEWISTOWN — Downtown Lewistown Inc. has been awarded $100,000 through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development’s Main Street Matters program to help fund improvements for downtown businesses. The funding will be used to provide matching microgrants of up to $5,000 for eligible businesses. Lewistown man charged with strangulation

LEWISTOWN — A Lewistown man is facing felony charges after borough police say he assaulted a woman during a domestic dispute, striking her, choking her and causing injuries that included a broken tooth. Shawn David Woodward, 34, was charged Sunday with felony strangulation, misdemeanor simple assault and summary harassment. He was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Craig A. Weston, who set bail at $75,000. Unable to post bail, Woodward was committed to the Mifflin County Correctional Facility. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. July 15 before Weston. Mount Nittany workers authorize strike plans if contract talks fail

STATE COLLEGE — Union employees at Mount Nittany Medical Center have overwhelmingly authorized a strike if contract negotiations fail to produce a new labor agreement, according to SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania. The union announced that 99% of members who voted Thursday authorized the bargaining committee to issue a strike notice if necessary. Negotiators are scheduled to return to the bargaining table Monday. The workers’ contract expired July 1.
