Looking for something to do with family and friends this Labor Day weekend? Check out these five events around the Juniata Valley:
1. 169th Juniata County Fair
The start of another exciting fair is only days away. Since 1854, fairgoers have flocked to the Juniata County Fair each summer. Opening day features a rabbit show, fair queen contests, food auction, free entertainment and fast cars racing at Port Royal Speedway.
Performances by the Gospel Sound Duo and Broken Record Band highlight Sunday's schedule, along with the beef and dairy shows, truck and tractor pulls, Farm Family of the Year presentation and church service.
Labor Day features goat and sheep shows, supreme showmanship and best-dressed critter contests, go-kart racing, performance by Best Friend's Girl and the 72nd annual Foss Jewelers of Lewistown Labor Day Classic. For more information, visit www.juniatacountyfair.com or find them on Facebook.
2. Burnham Community Day
Burnham Community Day features vendors selling crafts and delicious food, along with raffles, a 50/50 and an auction from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. For more information, find their Facebook page.
3. Roff Doggie Splash
If your dog loves the water and enjoys swimming, bring them out to the Burnham Community Pool, 200 First Ave., Burnham, for the 11th annual ROFF Doggie Splash. The event is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The cost is $5 per dog. Families with more than one dog will pay $2 for each additional dog. All dogs must be up to date with their rabies vaccination and license. Dog handlers must also be at least 16 years old.
4. Music on the Beach at Whipple Dam State Park
The sounds of Caledonia will fill the beach at Whipple Dam State Park, 3746 Laurel Run Road, Petersburg, as it concludes its summer concert series on Sunday. The performance, sponsored by the Friends of Whipple Dam State Park, runs from 4 to 6 p.m. Admission is free, but a $5 donation is suggested. Proceeds benefit the friends for projects in the park. 5. Annual Labor Day Breakfast
Let your taste buds run wild as the delicious smell of sausage, eggs and home fries fill the air at the County Line Restaurant's annual Labor Day Breakfast. The restaurant, located at 14026 Route 35, Richfield, will serve breakfast from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Proceeds benefit the Richfield Sportsman Club. For more information, find their Facebook page.
