Stone delivered for Burnham track project
Last stage toward track completion
BURNHAM — If you haven’t driven by the old Burnham Jamboree Grounds lately, it might look a little different.
That’s because the stone for the proposed Steelworx Pump Track has been delivered. The stone is one of the last stages before the track project, which has been under construction for the past year, can be completed.
“It will still be some time before the track can be ridden on,” said Carli Russler, of Burnham, one of the project founders. “Once we get the track formed, it will need to be paved before our community can enjoy it.”
By mid-August, the track will be built out of dirt and stone material by local track builders and volunteers. While the track will be rideable at that point, Russler and co-founder Shannon McGonigle, of Burnham, said a temporary fence will be constructed so it doesn’t get ruined while they wait for the asphalt phase.
The final process – asphalt paving – will also require raising another $30,000 to complete the facility. McGonigle and Russler are trying to get the word out to the community, especially local businesses, about becoming sponsors.
The Every Kids Rides Project non-profit has formed a sponsorship squad. Currently, they have lined up about a dozen businesses to be sponsors.
The goal of the Every Kid Rides Project is to create safe, accessible riding areas and provide children in the community with the skills, education and resources necessary to ride bikes throughout their lives.
McGonigle and Russler want that not only for their own children but children throughout the Juniata Valley.
“While all that stuff is taking place, we are asking for business sponsors and donations, and planning two fundraisers – a cash night and a community ride,” McGonigle explained.
That is the last step then it will be open for the public to ride. McGonigle and Russler are hopeful to have the track paved by the end of September.
Monetary donations can be made at MCS Bank under the Every Kid Rides Project or mailed to P.O. Box 3, Burnham, PA 17009. Shirts are also available at Studio Eight Apparel in Burnham. For more information, email steelworxpumptrack@gmail.com. You can also find their page on Facebook.
