No. 1 Lions fall to Pitt-Greensburg

BRADFORD, Pa. – The No. 1 seed Penn State Altoona softball team’s 2025 season came to an end on Sunday morning, when the Lions were defeated 5-1 by No. 3 seed Pitt-Greensburg in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship, hosted by Pitt-Bradford at its Kessel Athletic Complex.

Penn State Altoona (22-16) nabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Pitt-Greensburg (21-17) scored five unanswered runs and went on to claim the AMCC title for the first time in its softball program’s history.

Lauren Davidson (Clearfield, PA/DuBois Central Catholic) was 1-for-3 for the Lions with a run scored and a walk, and Hanna Lauck (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) went 1-for-2 with a walk. Allison Beeman (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) and Gianna Hoppel (Lewistown, PA/Mifflin County) also had one hit apiece, and Alyssa Fisher (Lock Haven, PA/Central Mountain) drew a walk.

Josselyn Nau (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) pitched a complete game for Penn State Altoona in the loss, going six innings, yielding four earned runs, and recording four strikeouts.

At the conclusion of the game, Lions seniors Fisher and Hoppel and freshman Madison Kennedy (Williamsburg, PA/Central) were all named to the AMCC All-Tournament team for their performances in this weekend’s conference playoffs.

The Lions grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. With one out, Davidson and Hoppel hit back-to-back singles, and a fielding error in the next at-bat allowed Davidson to come home, giving Penn State Altoona the day’s first run.

Pitt-Greensburg broke through to tie the score in the bottom of the third, when Jessica Dunn’s RBI single up the middle made it 1-1. But, with Bobcat runners at the corners and one out, the Lions avoided further damage by turning a double play to end the inning.

The Bobcats took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the fourth. After a leadoff single, Madyson Hart’s RBI triple to right field put Pitt-Greensburg ahead. Hart scored from third on Mia Dalessandro’s fielder’s choice, and the Bobcats carried a 3-1 advantage into the fifth.

Pitt-Greensburg padded its lead in the sixth, getting an RBI double from Hart and run-scoring groundout by Kylie Karns. The Bobcats closed the game out with their four-run lead to deal Penn State Altoona the season-ending loss.

Penn State Altoona softball finishes its season with a 22-16 overall record. The Lions were 10-6 in the AMCC during the regular season, earning a share of the conference’s regular season championship and ultimately taking the top seed in the league’s postseason tournament.

The AMCC’s individual postseason awards are expected to be announced this upcoming week.
