Clay earns 800m title

EUGENE, Ore. – The Penn State men’s and women’s track and field teams finished competition at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. with Allon Clay winning the men’s 800-meter title and three Nittany Lions earning medals on the final day of competition Sunday.

The Nittany Lions wrapped up the three-day competition with one Big Ten champion (Allon Clay, 800m) and three bronze medalists (Caron, 4×400 relay and Roban).

MEDALISTS

Allon Clay completed an epic comeback in the men’s 800-meter finals to take the Big Ten title in the event, clocking in at 1:47.93 to bring home a gold medal for the Nittany Lions.

Handal Roban earned a bronze medal in the men’s 800-meter race at a time of 1:48.05.

Florence Caron came in third place in the women’s 5,000-meter finals, finishing in 15:40.76 to claim a bronze medal in the event.

The men’s 4×400 relay group of Jake Palermo, James Onwuka, Roban and Max DeAngelo collected a third-place bronze finish, clocking in at 3:05.02 to set the sixth-fasted time in school history.

SCORING EVENTS

The men’s team closed out the Big Ten Outdoor Championships with a total of 31 points and the women completed the meet with 30 points.

Ajani Dwyer earned four points in the 100-meter final after finishing the race in 10.34. Palermo added five points to the total with a fourth-place in the men’s 400-meter, finishing at 46.04. The duo of Clay and Roban earned a combined 16 points in the 800-meter race, as Clay won the title and Roban finished in third at 1:48.05.

Hannah Riolo collected one point in women’s high jump with a 1.75m (5-8 ¾) mark. Gabriella Recce also collected one point in pole vault with a 4.18m (13-8 ½) mark. Florence Caron added the last six points after a third-place finish in the 5,000-meter race, clocking in at 15:40.76.

Women’s 1,500-meter Finals

Kane placed sixth, running at a time of 4:15.71.

Ada Rand finished in 4:16.71.

Women’s 5,000-meter Finals

Caron placed third at 15:40.76 to earn a bronze medal.

Men’s 100-meter Finals

Dwyer finished in 10.34.

Men’s 400-meter Finals

Palermo finished in fourth place at 46.04 to set a new PR and move to the No. 4 on the all-time list.

Men’s 800-meter Finals

Clay won the Big Ten title in the 800-meter race, clocking in at 1:47.93.

Roban finished in third place in 1:48.05.

Men’s 5,000-meter Finals

Jake Allen set a new personal best of 13:44.39 to set the fourth-fasted time in program history.

Men’s 4×400 Finals

Penn State’s group consisting of Roban, Palermo, Onwuka and DeAngelo earned the bronze medal after finishing in 3:05.02.

FIELD EVENT SUMMARY

Women’s High Jump Finals

Riolo tied her outdoor personal best with a 1.75m (5-8 ¾) jump.

Women’s Pole Vault Finals

Recce set a new personal best of 4.18m (13-8 ½) to move into the No. 4 spot all-time.
