Murray lifts Lady Lions past ’Dogs
ORLANDO, Fla. — Highlighted by the sharp-shooting of Moriah Murray, the Penn State Lady Lions rolled to a dominant 67-47 victory over Georgia Saturday at the State Farm Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Showcase held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla.
Murray finished with a game-high 24 points on 8-for-16 shooting from the field, including 7-for-14 from 3-point land. Murray also grabbed seven rebounds. She booked her fourth career 20-point scoring performance, with all four of those efforts coming this season.
Gracie Merkle also managed a double-double, contributing 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Alli Campbell added a career-high 14 points to go with seven assists and five rebounds. The win enabled the Lady Lions (7-0) to match their best start since 2022-23.
The Bulldogs (4-2) led 15-13 after the first quarter, and the score was tied at 25-all at halftime. An 11-0 run in the third quarter, highlighted by a trey from Murray, enabled the Lady Lions to pull ahead, 45-34. Murray drilled four treys in the final frame as Penn State outscored Georgia 22-13 to win going away.
Penn State outshot the Bulldogs 44 percent to 30 percent, while lighting it up from long range. Thanks to Murray’s seven three-pointers, Penn State shot 41 percent from long range, while holding the Bulldogs to 28 percent on threes. Penn State also won the rebounding battle, 45-38, and dominated points in the paint, 36-18.
