Allen tabbed Big 10 Freshman of the Week

Allen rushed for 111 yards and a touchdown against Central Michigan

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State freshman running back Kaytron Allen was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday. Allen earned his first career 100-yard rushing game to help No. 11/12 Penn State to a 33-14 win over Central Michigan on Saturday.

Allen picked up his first career Big Ten weekly honor. Allen joins fellow freshman running back Nicholas Singleton (9/12 and 9/19) as Nittany Lions who have been selected Big Ten Freshman of the Week this season.

Penn State last had two Big Ten Freshmen of the Week in 2020 when Keyvone Lee (11/30/20) and Joey Porter Jr. (12/7/20) both earned the honor.

Allen rushed for 111 yards on 13 carries marking the first 100-yard rushing game of his career.

Allen scored on a 14-yard run in the second quarter. It was his third career touchdown, which have all come in the last two games.

The freshman had a career-long 37-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Allen has yet to have a negative-yard rush in his career.

Allen ranks 10th in the Big Ten and eighth among FBS freshmen with three rushing touchdowns.

Holds ninth among FBS freshmen with 217 rushing yards and 12th among FBS freshman averaging 54.2 rushing yards per game.

With Allen’s 111-yard rushing performance, Penn State has had two true freshmen running backs post 100-yard games in a single season for the first time since 2019, when Devyn Ford (once) and Noah Cain (twice) each eclipsed the 100-yard plateau.

Penn State is the only FBS school with two freshmen who have rushed for 100 yards in a game this season.

No. 11/12 Penn State welcomes Northwestern to Beaver Stadium on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. on ESPN.
