Franklin: Mustipher out for season

UNIVERSITY PARK — Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford’s status remains questionable, but defensive tackle P.J. Mustipher has been lost for the season.

Coach James Franklin confirmed Mustipher’s status Wednesday night.

Franklin only discusses injuries if a player is out for the year.

Franklin said backup quarterbacks Ta’Quan Roberson and freshman Christian Veilleux are competing for the starting job.

The Nittany Lions (5-1) are idle Saturday and will host Illinois on Oct. 23.

Clifford, who was knocked out of last week’s loss at Iowa and suffered an undisclosed injury, was not present during the portion of Wednesday’s practice that was open to the media.
