Pete Carroll is set to return to the sideline as a head coach following a one-year hiatus and Brian Schottenheimer and Liam Coen are ready for their first shots at running an NFL team.

The Las Vegas Raiders and Carroll agreed in principle on a three-year deal with a one-year team option, a person with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press on Friday, speaking on condition of anonymity because the contract hasn’t been finalized.

The 73-year-old Carroll returns to the sideline after leading Seattle to two NFC championships and the franchise’s only Super Bowl title during a 14-year stretch that ended following the 2023 season.

The Dallas Cowboys announced Friday night that Schottenheimer agreed on a deal to become the storied franchise’s next coach.

The somewhat surprising choice is a familiar one for star quarterback Dak Prescott, who worked closely with Schottenheimer the past two seasons when former coach Mike McCarthy was the play-caller.

The 51-year-old Schottenheimer, son of the late NFL coach Marty Schottenheimer, has 25 years of NFL coaching experience — including 14 as an offensive coordinator — but none as a head coach.

Coen was hired by Jacksonville two days after the Jaguars fired general manager Trent Baalke to clear the path for Coen to leave his job as offensive coordinator in Tampa Bay.

With Aaron Glenn having been hired by the New York Jets, Ben Johnson heading to Chicago and Mike Vrabel already in New England, only one head coaching vacancy remains: New Orleans Saints.

Dolphins DC Anthony Weaver and Giants OC Mike Kafka are getting second interviews with the Saints.

Interim coach Darren Rizzi, who went 3-5 following Dennis Allen’s firing, was among the candidates already interviewed along with Joe Brady, Moore and former Stanford coach David Shaw.

Commanders OC Kliff Kingsbury is on the team’s list but he’s waiting until after the season. The Saints also are interested in McCarthy.

JETS HIRE MOUGEY AS GM: Denver Broncos assistant general manager Darren Mougey agreed to terms with the Jets to become their GM. The 39-year-old Mougey has worked as Broncos general manager George Paton’s top assistant for the past three seasons. Mougey replaces the fired Joe Douglas in New York and joins new Jets coach Aaron Glenn as the new leaders of the franchise. Owner Woody Johnson said in a statement Saturday night that Mougey impressed the Jets with his vision for the team moving forward. Johnson added that Mougey and Glenn will work together to revitalize the franchise.

49ERS HIRE SALEH AS DC: The San Francisco 49ers are bringing back Robert Saleh for a second stint as defensive coordinator after a failed tenure as head coach of the New York Jets. Saleh will be fourth defensive coordinator in the past four seasons for San Francisco. DeMeco Ryans replaced Saleh in 2021 after Saleh left to coach the Jets. Ryans then left to become head coach in Houston following the 2022 season. Steve Wilks and Nick Sorensen were each replaced after one season the past two years.
