No. 4 Lady Lions face No. 7 Huskies
UNIVERSITY PARK – The No. 4 Penn State women’s ice hockey team is set to face No. 7 Northeastern in their third ranked matchup of the season this weekend. Friday’s game will begin at 3:30 p.m. at Matthews Arena and will be streamed on NESN while Saturday’s game will begin at 2 p.m. and will not be streamed as the game will be held at Dorothy Talbot Skating Rink in Gloucester, Mass.
HISTORY
This is the fifth meeting of the two programs with the first four games being split two a piece.
The two teams have faced off each season going back to 2023.
Penn State won the last meeting at home 2-1 on September 27, 2024.
Northeastern has outscored PSU 6-5 in those meetings.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
Northeastern is 12-2-0 and 9-0-0 in the Hockey East while being ranked seventh in the USCHO.com poll.

Flint is currently sixth on the all-time wins list for NCAA Division 1 women’s ice hockey head coaches, 25 wins behind Nittany Lion bench boss Jeff Kampersal.
Lily Shannon leads Northeastern with 23 points on 10 goals and 13 assists.
Goaltender Lisa Jonsson has started 10 games for the Huskies, posting a .925 save percentage and a 1.5 GAA. She has a 9-1-0 record with three shutouts.
PENN STATE IN THE POLLS
The Penn State Nittany Lions currently sit fourth in both the USCHO.com and USA Hockey polls.
It is the highest ranking the program has achieved in either poll in its history as PSU is the lone undefeated team in the country.
DEFENSE TO OFFENSE
Penn State is currently number one in the country in scoring defense and second overall in scoring offense behind No. 1 ranked Wisconsin.
The Nittany Lions are scoring 5.2 goals per game while only allowing 1.00 goal per game, making for the highest scoring margin in the nation.
PSU also has only allowed 14.8 shots on goal per game, which is the lowest in the nation by over four shots.
The Nittany Lions also lead the nation in shorthanded goals with seven, four more than the next team.
PSU makes up the entire top 10 in plus/minus rating in the AHA with Danica Maynard leading the way at +23.
DOMINANCE IN THE DOT
The Nittany Lions are ranked first nationally in faceoff win percentage at 61.9 percent.
Tessa Janecke has won 188 faceoffs, pacing the Nittany Lions while leading the AHA with a 70.7 faceoff win percentage.
