Huskies drop Little Lions, 3-0

LEWISTOWN — Mifflin County field hockey welcomed in their cross mountain rivals State College for a primetime matchup at Kish Bank Field at Donald M. Chapman III Stadium on Monday.

Mifflin County drew first blood on a goal from Addie Fultz. She would have a trio of goals on the night as MC topped the Little Lions, 3-0, in a game where the Huskies capitalized off their corner shots and State College did not.

Mifflin County was strong in the passing game and crossovers. Jayda Kanagy and Alleigh Caruso both had strong showings which ultimately led to Huskies scoring goals.

Huskies head coach Brittany Wilcox said, “We played our game today and this is the way that I knew that we could play all season and we just needed to capitalize. And today really showcased how talented our team really is. Despite our record we’re hoping for two more wins this week and another win next week so we’re going to finish this season off strong and see what we can do.”

The talent was on display in an all around team effort from Mifflin County and it started with the three goals produced by Fultz and the strong defense up and down the roster for Mifflin County in a dominant win over their cross mountain rivals.

Addie Fultz noted, “We brought the intensity and the energy the girls put out there and gave it their all and keeping that up will hopefully lead us to more victories.”

State College was limited in the loss as they were forced to defend most of the game; the Little Lions did get production from Sadie Kocher as she generated much of the Lions offense that they displayed.

State College head coach Sharon Herlocher said, “I thought like the basics of field hockey going to the ball on corners it’s really simple, you just stop it and get a shot off you know… We did not execute on our corners tonight. They had strong hard tackles and we let that get to us. We need to just go back to basics and pass to each other. We dribbled a lot but we played so well the other night and we passed the ball tonight, we were dribbling.”

Mifflin County is now 5-10 on the season and will face Bishop McDevitt today.

Starting at $2.99/week.
