Tomahawks hit the links for fundraiser

Inaugural golf outing scheduled for July 26

MCCLURE — Just because Brian Rodgers puts together different game plans on the gridiron each week for the Mifflin County Tomahawks, don’t think the veteran head coach can’t work his magic in other sports.

We’ll see how well he does with the game of golf.

Rodgers and the Tomahawks, which recently completed a 6-5 campaign in the Great Eastern Football Association, are holding the inaugural Mifflin County Tomahawks Golf Outing at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 26.

The event will be at Indian Run Golf Course, located at 328 Riden Lane in McClure.

“We came up with the idea a few years ago,” Rodgers said. “We were going to do one but couldn’t work out the details fast enough.”

The cost is $25 per player plus course fees.

There will be several holes with special events, including closest to the pin, longest drive, 50/50 chip shot and heckle hole.

Tomahawk Hall of Fame tight end Kevin Grenoble is scheduled to appear to not only sign autographs but offer putting advice.

“Please join us for a great day of golf,” Rodgers said. Many of the Tomahawks players also plan to play at the event.

Proceeds from the outing benefit the team, which is also owned and operated by Rodgers.

“It’s been years in the making but we have finally ironed out the details,” he added.
