MILROY — It looked like Burnham’s ‘goose was cooked’ on Tuesday as Milroy jumped out to a 5-0 lead early in a key Mifflin County Babe Ruth game.
But, lucky for Burnham it was June 10 and not Sept. 29, the official Goose Day in Mifflin County when everybody eats goose.
Burnham came the whole way back and won the game, 12-8. Burnham is now 12-3 and in second place behind league-leading McVeytown, 12-1.
Milroy scored a single run in the first and added four more in the second. Karl Shirey and Jaren Kenny each had two RBI singles in the second.
Burnham finally got on the scoreboard with four runs in the third inning. Noah Wray and Blake Royer each had RBI hits. Royer’s was an RBI double. Wray had another RBI base hit to tie the game in the fourth.
In the top of the fifth, Burnham went ahead, 8-5 on four base hits. Liam Shaffer smashed an RBI double and Cohen Leister followed with a two-run base hit.
Milroy pulled even with three runs in the sixth. Shirey, who finished with four RBIs, had a two-run single and Thad Gerwick knocked home Shirey (with a single) to tie the game, 8-8.
In the top of the seventh, Burnham batted around. With one out, Shaffer hit a clutch line-drive shot down the left-field line to score two runs. Then with two outs, Wray, who finished with four RBIs, put the game away with a two-run single.
Shaffer started for Burnham and pitched into the fourth inning. A rookie, Brody Keefer, finished the fourth and pitched into the sixth before Wray came in to close and get the win.
Wray had four strikeouts, gave up no runs and two hits.
Milroy outhit Burnham, 12-11. Shirey had three hits including a double. Chase Krepps, Gerwick and Kenny each had two. Krepps had a double in the sixth.

Lewistown 13, Strodes Mills 2
LEWISTOWN — Lewistown won its fifth game of the year and fourth in its last six with a 13-2 victory over Strodes Mills. The game ended after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
Landon Cunningham started for Lewistown, but only went one inning. Wyatt Foltz finished the game and picked up the win. Foltz threw four shutout innings, struck out six, walked only one and gave up just two hits.

NOTES – Keith Baker, president of the Mifflin County League, announced that Strodes Mills has forfeited a game to Burnham. Bunrham was leading 10-0 in the second when it was stopped because of rain… Burnham is now 12-3 and Strodes Mills is 1-13… Kooper Walters played his first game this season for Milroy on Tuesday against Burnham. Walters scored two runs and had a bunt base hit. The two-time All-Star was injured before the start of the Babe Ruth season.
