Belleville earns 5th win vs Lewistown

BELLEVILLE – Belleville scored 10 runs on eight hits in the sixth inning Wednesday night to put away Lewistown, 17-8. The win gave Belleville its fifth win of the season and its second in a row. Belleville is now 5-13 and is in a battle for sixth place along with Reedsville (6-11) and Lewistown (5-12) in the Mifflin County Babe Ruth League.
The Big Valley club sent 16 men to the plate in the sixth inning. Kaden Peachey, a rookie, opened the inning with a double. Belleville got RBIs during the rally from Carter Sunderland, Dom Altamuro, Reagan Varner and Gio Ortiz and a two-run single from Luke Hale.
Belleville finished with 15 hits. Jaden King and Varner each had three hits, Sunderland and Landon Rhodes each had two. Sunderland had a double in the fourth. Sunderland and King each scored three runs.
Varner came in relief in the top of the sixth and got the win. Lewistown led 8-7 going into the bottom of the sixth. Varner faced five men and got four outs including three strikeouts. Varner now has all five of Belleville’s wins on the mound.
Lewistown only had five hits. Three of those occurred in the first inning when Lewistown took a 5-0 lead.
Landon Bowen was 3-for-4 for Lewistown, while Jared Sickles and Chris Ritter each had base hits.
Lewistown didn’t help its cause by committing 10 errors, giving up five walks and having four wild pitches that scored runs for Belleville.
REEDSVILLE 14, STRODES MILLS 0
LEWISTOWN – Reedsville moved into sixth place with a 14-0 win over Strodes Mills.
Reedsville is now 6-11. The game ended after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
Three Reedsville pitchers combined for the shutout. It was the first shutout of the season for Reedsville. Caden McClure got the start and the win by going two innings. Jude Zook and Anderson Bitner finished the game for Reedsville.
Reedsville finished with eight hits. Wyatt Parkes, Cam Kauffman and Karter Kanagy each had two.
Strodes only had four hits. Raul Rodriguez was a multiple hitter with two, while Kayden Hook and Karson Goss each had one.
The victory snapped a six-game losing streak for Reedsville.
