Millionaires outslug Huskies, 19-12

LEWISTOWN — Williamsport (10-5) recorded 12 runs in the first three innings during a 19-12 victory over Mifflin County softball on Thursday afternoon.

The Huskies (6-11) fought back with four runs in the fourth frame, trimming the deficit to 12-7.

Shortstop Riley Hine had three hits for the Huskies and scored two runs. Catcher Ava Baker had four runs, three hits with a home run and three RBIs.

The Huskies chalked up 17 hits with two errors. The Millionaires had 22 hits and five errors.

The Huskies host Mechanicsburg today at 4:15 p.m.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Eagles sink Huskies, 24-1

MECHANICSBURG — Mifflin County girls lacrosse lost on the road to Cumberland Valley on Thursday, 24-1.

Izzy Snyder had the Lady Huskies’ lone goal. Andi Miller had eight saves in goal.

The Lady Huskies (2-12) host Mechanicsburg today at 4:30 p.m. for senior day.

BASEBALL

Wildcats claw Huskies, 11-7

LEWISTOWN — With play resuming in the bottom of the second inning on Thursday, Mechanicsburg baseball was able to win a suspended game, 11-7, over Mifflin County.

The game began on Monday, but was suspended due to rain.

After trailing 3-0 entering the bottom of the second frame, the Huskies roared back by plating six runs.

The Huskies led 7-5 prior to the six stanza, which is where the Wildcats (11-7) heated up. The visitors posted six runs in the sixth and snagged the road win.

Jager Nailor blasted a home run and tallied two RBIs, two hits, three runs and one double for Mechanicsburg. Eli Reider added a triple with three ribbies. Nick Patrick corralled two RBIs and two hits.

On the mound, Gino Coleman went five and two-third innings, allowed four hits, one run, one walk and five strikeouts.

The Huskies (9-7) scored once after the second frame. The home squad had eight hits with three errors. The Wildcats had 10 hits with one error.

Landon Haigh had a triple and scored a run. Evan Strohecker recorded two RBIs, one run and one hit. Shortstop Clay Ammon had two hits and one RBI. Logan Alexander added one RBI and one hit.

On the mound, Parker Crownover pitched three and one-third innings, allowed four hits, two earned runs, six walks and had two strikeouts.

Huskies host Cedar Cliff at 4:15 today.

Indians, Tigers shine at TVL championships

DUNCANNON — Juniata boys track and field finished in first place out of seven teams and Juniata girls placed fourth at the TVL championships at Susquenita on Wednesday.

“The night was full of many personal bests on both sides and I couldn’t be a more proud coach. It was truly an outstanding night for us,” Indians coach Maisie Hershberger said.

Sylvia Brubaker not only broke the TVL 800 record by winning it (2:23.57), but also won the 1600 and 3200. She was awarded MVP of the track meet for girls. Freshman Carolyn Heidenreich took second in the 1600 and third in the 800. Grace Wagner took third in the javelin and fourth in the pole vault.

Jasper Shepps won the 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles and tied the school record for high jump with a jump of 6′ 6″. Wyatt Stroup won the 1600, 3200, was third in the 800 and was on the winning 4×800 relay team with teammates Joey Bomberger, Josiah Barnes, and Teagan Trout. Joey also took second in the 1600 and 3200. Mason Beward took third in the 3200 with almost a ten second personal best.

Connor Boreman took second in the 100 with a new personal record of 11.3 seconds. He was fourth in the 300 hurdles and fourth in the long jump. Connor was also a part of the 4×1 made up of Jasper Shepps, Ricky Guante and Anthony Maradiaga who took second. Anthony also won pole vault followed by teammate Tayden Miller taking second. Arthur Hazard took second in the triple jump with a new PR of 40 feet. Wyatt Ehrenzeller got third in the javelin. Caden Swailes took fourth in the javelin and fifth in the high jump with a personal record, jumping 5′ 10″.

For East Juniata, Cody Nipple was awarded male track MVP for the meet. He finished first in the 100, 200 and 400. All race times were state qualifying times. He was the anchor of the third-place 4×400.

Shay Brininger, sophomore, took second in the shot and discus for EJ followed by Evan Hubley in third place and Kyler Holcombe in fourth.

Davis Hart was second in the 300 hurdles and third in the 110 hurdles.

EJ travels to Williamsport next Thursday (4 p.m.) and Saturday (10 a.m.) for the District 4 Championships.

Juniata will head to Altoona next Tuesday (11 a.m.) and Wednesday (4:30 p.m.) for the District 6 Championships.

BASEBALL

Huskies split with Eagles

MECHANICSBURG — Mifflin County won Game 1 of their doubleheader with Cumberland Valley on Wednesday, 5-0. The Huskies lost Game 2, 3-2.

In the first game, Husky pitcher Grady Hoppel hurled seven innings for a complete game. He allowed five hits, no runs, no walks and struck out five batters.

For the Huskies, Landon Haigh had two hits and one RBI. Leadoff man Evan Strohecker scored twice and had one hit. The Huskies scored three runs in the first frame.

In the second game, the Eagles scored the eventual game-winning run in the sixth inning.

Clay Ammon had the lone RBI for the visiting Huskies. Strohecker, Haigh and Easton Lepley each tallied one hit.

On the mound, Husky Aidan Arnold went four and one-third innings, gave up six hits, two runs, one walk and had three punchouts. Madden Weaver had one and two-third innings pitched, allowed no hits, one unearned run, two walks and one strikeout.

The Huskies host Cedar Cliff today at 4:15 p.m. Their final regular-season game is on Monday at Cedar Cliff.
