McVeytown delivers Burnham its first loss

MCVEYTOWN — Burnham’s undefeated season came to an end Thursday night as it lost to McVeytown, 13-6.
Burnham is now 3-1 and is tied with McVeytown and Beaver Springs for first place. Milroy is 2-1 but played a late game with Belltown on Thursday.
McVeytown used its bullpen to secure the victory. The game was 6-6 going into the bottom of the second inning. Gatlin Kauffman came in to pitch in the bottom of the second and finished the third and fourth innings. Kauffman got the win and Carson Cherry threw the last three innings and got the save. Cherry struck out six, gave up one hit, no runs and walked no one.
Burnham scored a single run in the first and five in the second. Burnham only had four hits. Liam Shaffer had an RBI double in the first. Cohen Leister, Hunter Benfer and Isaiah Burch each had singles.
McVeytown scored six runs in the first, added four more in the second and wrapped up the game with three in the sixth.
The winners pounded out 13 hits. Bo Benny led the offense with three hits, while Jett Powell, Jake Knable and Trayven Shaffer each had two. Powell had a key RBI double in the first and Trayven Shaffer had two doubles, one came in the first and knocked in two runs.
Kauffman had the first RBI of the game for McVeytown with a triple in the first inning.
REEDSVILLE 9, BELLEVILLE 5
BELLEVILLE — Reedsville won its second game of the year with a 9-5 victory over Belleville.
Reedsville used three pitchers with Caden McClure getting the start and the win. Camden Kauffman and Karter Kanagy worked in relief with Kanagy getting the save.
The winners had 11 hits. Kauffman had a big night with a single, double and triple.
Jude Zook also was a multiple hitter for Reedsville with two.
Belleville had nine hits with Landon Rhodes getting three including a double. Jaden King and Regan Varner each had two hits.
Reedsville opened the game by scoring five runs in the first inning.
