Mounties compete in Nye Invite

WOOSTER, Oh. – The Mount Aloysius Men’s Golf Team traveled to Ohio to play in the Nye Intercollegiate Invitational. The event was two days and consisted of 14 teams and 75 players. The Mounties looking to continue their momentum coming off of their victory at the Penn State Altoona Spring Invitational.

DAY ONE

On the first day of the event, the Mounties would find themselves in striking distance after completion of the round. Josh Nicholl (Ballymena, Northern Ireland, Cullybackey College) found himself just one shot back of the lead after the first round of play after a first-round score of 75 (+3). Nicholl, coming off of his first collegiate win just two days prior is now looking to get back on the podium once again.

As for the rest of the squad on day one, Ethan Batstone (Swindon, England, South Gloucestershire and Stroud) would have a solid day of play finishing with a 5 over par round 77. Viktor Cussil (Sigtuna, Sweden, Arlandagymnasiet) would find himself with a solid score of 80 (+8). Michael Sevier (King George, Va., King George) would grind out an 84 and Josh Lytle (Georgetown, Pa., South Side) would shoot a ten over par 82. As a team the Mounties would be within striking distance heading into the final day.

DAY TWO

Heading into day two there was a lot at stake for the Mounties as they were in contention for both the team title and players in the running for the individual champion. The Mounties would come close to a team victory headed into the back nine as they were just two shots off the lead with a few holes to go. Unfortunately, they fell short falling back into fifth place in a tightly contested field. As for the Individual title, Josh Nicholl who was two shots behind the leader mid-way through the front nine, clawed his way to an even par round of 72 to win the event by one shot. This win marking Nicholls second career collegiate victory, winning both in the span of just four days!

As for the rest of the Mountie lineup, Ethan Batstone would finish day two with a round of 84 dropping him into a tie for 36th place. Viktor Cussil would bounce back on day two with a score of 78 putting him in a tie for 18th place. Michael Sevier would improve from the first round with a day two score of 80 finishing him in a tie for 42nd place. Josh Lytle would finish with a score of 86 putting him in a tie for 63rd place.

In the individual spot for the Mounties, Filip Dahl (Jessheim, Norway, Hvam Videregaande Skole) would play a solid two days of golf shooting scores of 84 and 81, putting him in a tie for 50th place.

UP NEXT…

The Mounties will play the last event of their spring schedule on April 27th and 28th. The team will be traveling to Chardon, Ohio. The event they are playing in is the Caschera/DiCillo Classic.
