Williams Grove opens season Sunday

MECHANICSBURG — Williams Grove Speedway kicks off its 2025 racing
season on Sunday afternoon at 2 featuring the sprint cars. Gates open
at noon.
Dillsburg’s Anthony Macri won last year’s opener. Other recent Opening
Day winners have been Carson Macedo (2020), Freddie Rahmer (2021),
Justin Peck (2022) and Zeb Wise (2023). The five openers prior to that
were won by Lucas Wolfe (2019, 2018), Greg Hodnett (2017), Rick
Lafferty (2016) and Danny Dietrich (2015).
Tommy Hinnershitz won the Grove’s first race back in 1939. Mark Light
(1940), Vic Nauman (1941) won the next two. Ted Horn, one of the
greatest of his era, won four of the next five openers. Walt Ader won
in 1946. Hinnershitz won again in 1949 and 1952.
As a teenager, former NASCAR driver Kasey Kahne won the opener in 2000.
Rahmer has won four of the last eight track championships, including
last season. His dad, Fred, has the most track championships (9) and
Opening Day wins (6).
Danny Dietrich won the title in 2019 and 2022. Lance Dewease’s seventh
career track title came in 2021. Lucas Wolfe was the 2018 champion.
There have been a couple major driver changes heading into the new
season, including Rahmer back in his family-owned No. 51 after leaving
the Rich Eichelberger No. 8, which will now be driven by Brock
Zearfoss. Chase Dietz is the new driver of the Stehman Motorsports No.
23 replacing Devin Borden.
Following the opener, Williams Grove will host two additional programs
in March with traditional Friday night racing on March 21 and 28. The
410 sprints will headline both programs with the 358 sprints and the
winged super sportsman as well.
The 410s and 358s are on the schedule on April 4 and then the 410’s,
305s and wingless super sportsman on April 11. The annual Hinnershitz
Memorial will be April 18. A regular show of 410’s and 358’s complete
the month of April.
Many special races will be held throughout the season honoring past
and present members of the Williams Grove racing community.
The All Star Circuit of Champions return to the Grove on June 6 for
the Lynn Paxton Legends Classic.
Fan Appreciation Nights on May 30 and Aug. 1 will allow fans with
general admission tickets pit area access before the races.
The USAC sprint cars come to town as part of Eastern Storm on June 20.
The World of Outlaws will sanction six races at the Grove including
Morgan Cup weekend, May 9-10; the Summer Nationals, July 25-26; and
the National Open Oct 3-4.
SPRINT CAR SPEEDWEEK SCHEDULE
The 35th edition of Pennsylvania Sprint Car Speedweek kicks off
Friday, June 27, at Williams Grove before heading to Lincoln Speedway
for the Kevin Gobrecht Memorial on Saturday, and to BAPS Motor
Speedway on Sunday.
The series heads back to Lincoln on Monday, June 30, and to Grandview
Speedway on Tuesday.
Port Royal’s first of two Speedweek races is Wednesday, July 2. The
series heads South to Hagerstown on Thursday. The Mitch Smith Memorial
at Williams Grove is Friday, July 4, and the Greg Hodnett Classic at
Port Royal on Saturday, July 5. A big change this season in the
Speedweek finale, which will be held at Path Valley Speedway in Spring
Run on Sunday, July 6.
