Huskies compete in Spirit Championships

READING – The best of Pennsylvania cheerleading was on display at Santander Arena in Reading last week during the PIAA Competitive Spirit Championships.
More than 100 cheer squads from Pennsylvania, including the Mifflin County Huskies, showcased their routines during the preliminary round.
Each squad had 2 minutes and 30 seconds to perform a routine, on a 54-by-42-foot surface, that must include a cheer, either with or without music. The PIAA awards the champion and runner-up with trophies in each division.
Mifflin County’s cheerleaders advanced to the semifinals for the first time in school history and finished top 11 in the state.
In the preliminary round of the Class 3-A Large Varsity Division, Mifflin County ranked ninth in the 21-team field to qualify for the semifinals. The Huskies’ overall score was 78.533.
Haverford High School, located in Delaware County, posted the highest final score of 91.9 and were named finalists along with Hempfield (88.867), Saint Hubert Catholic (83.633), Norwin (82.233), Archbishop Ryan (82.067) and Seneca Valley (80.633).
Besides Mifflin County, the other schools who were named semifinalists included Hazleton Area (80.600), Cumberland Valley (80.133), North Allegheny (73.533) and Baldwin (73.167).
In the semifinal round, Mifflin County ranked fifth with a final score of 63.50. Cumberland Valley finished first at 88.43, with North Allegheny second at 80.33, Baldwin third at 77.00 and Hazleton fourth at 74.13.
In the final round, Cumberland Valley scored a 90.43 to capture the title over Haverford (88.17), Saint Hubert (81.97), Norwin (81.67) and Hempfield (81.67), Seneca Valley (78.10) and Archbishop Ryan (75.53).
