LEWISTOWN — The Mifflin County boys basketball team put up a fight but suffered a tough loss 57-43 against Palmyra on Friday night.

“They played four quarters of tough basketball. They were very physical, but we didn’t come to play tonight. This late you have to play four quarters of defense and our offense relies on that so we can get up in transition and score at the rim, and then it opens things up for us around the perimeter. If we don’t play defense well, then our offense doesn’t work so that was the problem tonight,” Huskies head coach Wade Curry explained.

Aidan Attivo had 10 points for the Huskies and Luke Bender had nine. Jack Curry posted eight MC points.

“We controlled offensive plays out of timeouts really well or one-set plays, but we didn’t really run a good five-out offense and our defense isn’t as intense as it should have been,” senior Aidan Attivo remarked.

“Palmyra played really, really physical and on defense they fight and they fought more than us tonight and they did a really good job at crashing and getting rebounds.”

For the Cougars, Alex Donta had a team-high 16 points and Aidan Willard posted 13. Palmyra corralled 12 three-pointers in the contest.

“We game planned for this for a week and a half and we had two weeks off. We knew exactly what they would run, they ran it, and we did not execute defensively. It was just a lack of execution,” Curry explained.

“The intensity they brought was the hardest part. They also had one really big kid down low that was getting a lot of boards and a few others that were more physical than us and were getting rebounds,” Attivo added.

“The team needs to focus defensively, being in the right position, being more active defensively and we need to be more smooth and facing in our offense.”

The Huskies (4-5) visit Lower Dauphin at 7 p.m. on Monday. Palmyra is now 4-3-1 on the season.
