Shepps, Indians bulldoze Buffaloes, 63-25

MIFFLINTOWN — Juniata boys basketball rolled to a 63-25 win on Tuesday over Newport.
Jasper Shepps dropped 23 points for Juniata and Jadon Nealman added seven points.
Issac Carlson, Ricky Guante, Damien Vance and Caden Swailes each had six points for the Indians. Shepps had 10 of his points in the second period.
Newport’s Landon Zaring had 13 points in the road defeat.
Juniata outscored Newport in the first half, 34-7.
Juniata visits St. Joe’s on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Lions drop Thunder, 56-42
MILTON — Meadowbrook topped Belleville Mennonite Tuesday in boys hoops, 56-42.
Bryson Peachey tallied 17 points for BMS and Grant Yoder collected a dozen points. Devin Yoder added five points.
For the Lions, Levi Erb posted 16 points and Jaeden Canelo added 13. Copeland Locke had 10 points and Josiah Baker chimed in with nine points.
Next, BMS (0-2) hosts Juniata Christian on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Lions claw Thunder, 34-16
MILTON — Meadowbrook Christian beat Belleville Mennonite girls basketball on Tuesday, 34-16.
Karina Renno had eight BMS points and Katelyn Renno added seven points.
For the Lions, Maddy Fasnacht paved the way with 16 points. Megan Reed added six points.
BMS (1-2, 0-1 ACAA) hosts Juniata Christian on Friday.
TRACK AND FIELD
Smith named track athlete of the year
LEWISTOWN — Carter Smith was named Pennsylvania’s Track & Field Boy Athlete of the Year on Tuesday.
Smith earned state gold in cross country this year and in the indoor track season with the Huskies as well. In the indoor season last winter, Smith captured the 800-meter title at the PTFCA Indoor State Championships.
Smith placed ninth in the state track meet back in the spring during the 1600 (4:11.55).
During the District 6 meet in the spring, Smith was first in the 1600 at 4:16.15.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Wildcats stump Tigers, 43-14
COCOLAMUS — Halifax stormed past East Juniata Monday, 43-14.
Halifax dropped six three-pointers in the road win.
Landyn Cramer tallied seven EJ points. Addison Eby and Carolyn Dressler each scored two points for the Tigers.
EJ travels to Midd-West on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
