Lions drop Susquehanna in men’s golf

ALTOONA – The Penn State Altoona men’s golf team faced off against non-conference opponent Susquehanna University in a dual match on Saturday afternoon, when the Lions beat the River Hawks by four strokes, 309-312, at Sinking Valley Country Club.

Penn State Altoona’s ‘B’ team led the way at the event with its score of 309. Ethan Ellis (Pittsburgh, PA/North Catholic) shot 2-over par, leading his squad with a 74. Roger Royer (Williamsburg, PA/Williamsburg Community) fired 4-over par, 76, and Samuel Sharbaugh (Davidsville, PA/Conemaugh Township) was 6-over par, 78.

Trent Querry (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) carded an 81, and Sean McCullough (Kittanning, PA/West Shamokin) shot 82.

The Lions’ ‘C’ team also competed in the match and shot 318 as a unit. Anthony Carson (Broomall, PA/Cardinal O’Hara) led the ‘C’ team and tied for the lowest score on the day for the Lions, shooting 74, 2-over par. Daniel Batrus (Altoona, PA/Altoona) was 3-over par, scoring 75.

Stephen Phillips (Gambrills, MD/DeMatha Catholic) scored an 84, and Luke Repko (Cresson, PA/Bishop Carroll) shot 85.

Next up for the Penn State Altoona men’s golf program, the Lions will look to defend their Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference title in the conference championships on Monday, October 14, and Tuesday, October 15, at Butler Country Club.
