MCALISTERVILLE — With Juniata Christian’s ninth victory in sight, Annika Martin made sure the Lions came out of their girls soccer game on top, Thursday afternoon.

Martin scored three goals as Juniata Christian (9-2) conquered East Juniata, 4-1.

The Lions got on the board with 3:01 remaining in the opening half as Peyton Burd sent a sphere into the net.

Over two minutes into the second half, Martin would pad the lead after an assist by Burd, making it 2-0 Juniata Christian.

“They were definitely a really physical defense and I think we had to work through the physicality and manage our way to get passes in,” Martin said about playing EJ.

“I thought once we were able to get passes in it was pretty easy to open up.”

East Juniata’s Haley Hoffman would score a goal of her own roughly four minutes later.

“Once they scored we didn’t let down. We scored pretty quickly after that to make it 3-1. I’m proud that, that we didn’t fold up. We just kept playing,” Juniata Christian coach Todd Taylor said.

Martin would also score with a header at the 17:39 mark in the second half before posting her final goal of the afternoon with 9:27 left in the contest.

“It definitely gives us a lot of momentum going forward. We can really be happy with tonight’s win and it gives us a lot of joy and momentum going into our next game,” Martin noted.

Grace Hibbs collected 13 saves for the Tigers (1-6-1).

“First half we had a hangover from last night’s game. I think they seemed tired. In the second half, even though they got more goals than us I thought we played better with more energy,” EJ coach Tom Feltman said.

Juniata Christian will host Northumberland Christian on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.

East Juniata hosts Juniata on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
