Hidlay brothers win in first dual meet of 2021

RALEIGH, N.C. –Mifflin County High School graduates Hayden and Trent Hidlay got their 2021-22 wrestling seasons started in style on Sunday, as both brothers won easily in North Carolina State’s dual against West Virginia.

Trent wasted no time making short work of his opponent, locking up a devastating head lock on the Mountaineers’ Anthony Carman for a first-period pin that took just 22 seconds.

Hayden’s much anticipated debut at 174 pounds was an easy victory, as he picked up a 19-3 tech fall over WVU’s Dennis Robin.

The Hidlays will return to dual meet competition on Dec. 2 when the Wolfpack host Gardner Webb.

Macknair runs at NCAA meet

SAINT LEO — Mifflin County High School graduate Chayce Macknair competed at the 2021 NCAA Division II National Championship meet on Saturday, in Saint Leo, Florida.

Macknair covered the 10K course with a time of 34:45.4, which was good enough for 212th.

Macknair, along with teammate Hayden Hunt were the first two Shippensburg individual qualifiers since 2012. The race was also just the third 10K of Macknair’s collegiate career, as he ran his second 10K at the NCAA Atlantic Regional meet earlier this season.

Macknair’s season concludes after winning the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championship earlier this season, followed by a ninth-place finish at the Atlantic Regional championship meet at Lock Haven University.

Macknair will now shift his focus toward the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons at Shippensburg University.
