From staff reports COCOLAMUS — East Juniata made a 2-1 halftime lead hold up Wednesday as the Tigers earned a non-league field hockey victory by that same score over Midd-West. Karah Goss scored in the first quarter while Ava Stoner doubled the lead in the second with a goal of her own. But the Tigers’ lead was cut in half 31 seconds later as Midd-West’s Emily Kline banged home the only goal of the game for the Mustangs. A strong game in the cage by Tiger goalkeeper Hailey Yeater made the lead stand up with 16 saves on 17 shots faced, as neither side scored in the second half. Midd-West enjoyed a one-shot advantage and earned five more penalty corners than did the Tigers, but it wasn’t enough for the Mustangs to pull even. East Juniata visits Benton on Saturday. But the Tigers’ lead was cut in half 31 seconds later as Midd-West’s Emily Kline banged home the only goal of the game for the Mustangs.

Girls soccer

MIDDLEBURG — Becca Yount scored both goals for Midd-West Wednesday in the Mustangs’ 2-0 win over East Juniata in a non-league girls soccer match.

Yount scored twice in the final 10 minutes of what had previously been a scoreless game to earn the victory for Midd-West.

The Mustangs outshot the Tigers 18-4, but a dozen saves by East Juniata goalkeeper Grace Hibbs kept her team in the game.

East Juniata welcomes Trinity today. Midd-West (6-7-1) hosts Mount Carmel, also today.

COCOLAMUS — East Juniata dropped a volleyball match to Shamokin on Tuesday by a 3-0 score. Set scores were 25-20, 25-17 and 25-15.

Marissa Lauver led the Tigers with seven aces while Kylie Jewell had seven digs. Leah Davison had four kills, the most among East Juniata players.

The Tigers’ junior varsity squad fell in two sets, 25-19 and 26-24.

East Juniata visits Upper Dauphin today.

Girls soccer

Shikellamy 1, Midd-West 0

MIDDLEBURG — Midd-West dropped a close girls soccer contest Tuesday to Shikellamy by a 1-0 score.

Paige Fausey was the game’s lone goal scorer for the Braves.

Midd-West’s Rylee Weaver earned 18 saves in the game.

MOUNT UNION — Mount Union’s boys soccer team fell to Everett 9-0 Tuesday in a boys soccer match.

Goalkeeper Caleb Miller stopped 23 shots for the Trojans.

Mount Union recorded only two shots on goal in the game.
