Burnham rolls past McVeytown, 20-3
MCVEYTOWN — Burnham is red hot.
Burnham won its fifth game in a row in the Mifflin County Babe Ruth League by beating McVeytown, 20-3, on Wednesday. The game ended after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
Burnham is now 9-7 and in sixth place, right behind Lewistown who is 7-5. Before the win streak Burnham was 4-7 and was buried deep in the standings.
Burnham only led 6-1 after two innings, but in the third it scored 14 runs on seven hits and sent 19 men to the plate.
The winners finished with 13 hits. The big bats were Farrell Souders and Xavier Smith, who each had three hits. Smith had a double in the first inning when Burnham scored four times.
Gavin Knode also was a multiple hitter for the winners as he had a double in the opening inning.
Burnham used four pitchers with Calin McKnight going the first two innings and getting the win.
McVeytown had four hits. Zack Diehl had an RBI single in the first inning. Hunter Bailey and Clay Ammon each had singles in the fifth when McVeytown scored twice. The other hit came from Nazae Traxler in the first.
