Juniata track sweeps Millersburg in meet

MILLERSBURG — The Juniata High School track and field team posted a pair of Tri-Valley League victories on Monday afternoon, as the boys and girls teams defeated Millersburg 92-55 and 76-74, respectively.

On the boys side, Juniata won two of the three relays, James Hazard won the 800-meter run (2:22.4), the mile (5:34.1) and two-mile (11:59.2) while Charles Barton won both the 110-meter hurdles and the 300 hurdles on the way to the victory.

Zach Hart won both the shot put (34 feet, 10.5 inches) and the discus (104 feet, 5 inches) while Tyson Aurand won the pole vault, clearing 10 feet.

On the girls side, Juniata’s Ashlyn Pannebaker won the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, while Ava Stoner won the pole vault, clearing 6 feet, 6 inches. Emily Houtz excelled, willing the 800-meter run with a time of 2:59 as well as the mile (6:46.5). Mackenzie Bennett won the 300 hurdles with a time of 56.8 seconds.

Haley Mummah won the 3,200 with a time of 16:11.2, while Kennedi Whitesel won the discus with a throw of 82 feet, 10 inches.

Juniata returns to action on Thursday when it travels to East Juniata in a cross-county TVL rivalry.


Juniata 13, Greenwood 0 (5 innings)

MIFFLINTOWN — The Juniata softball team scored early and often, using a big six-run second inning to defeat Greenwood, 13-0 in five innings in a Tri-Valley League softball contest on Monday afternoon.

Juniata’s Shalelyn Armstrong and Elizabeth Gaisior each drove in three runs in the victory. The Indians pounded out eight hits while Gaisior went 3-3 with a double. Olivia Laub, Alexia Berry and Alyvia Risban also had RBIs for the Indians.

In the circle, Gaisior threw a complete-game shutout, striking out 12 batters while allowing just one hit and one walk in the victory.

Gaisior recorded her 100th strikeout of the season in the win.

Juniata (3-9) returns to action on Thursday when it travels to Upper Dauphin.

Mifflin County 4,

West Perry 3

LEWISTOWN — The Mifflin County Junior High girls varsity team dropped a tough 4-3 decision to West Perry on Monday afternoon at Mifflin County Middle School.

The Huskies were outshot by the Mustangs, 8-6 in the loss. Mifflin County received goals a pair of goals by Leah Alexander in the first half while Danielle Warfel had the lone tally in the second half for Mifflin County. Mackenzie Peachey had an assist on Alexander’s second goal in the opening half on a corner kick.

Mifflin County travels to East Juniata today at 4:30 p.m.


Halifax 10, Juniata 1

HALIFAX — The Juniata baseball team dropped a tough 10-1 defeat to Halifax on Friday afternoon in a Tri-Valley League baseball contest.

Jace White gave Juniata an early 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly in the first inning but Juniata mustered little offensively after that.

Halifax recorded 13 hits in the victory and six different players drove in a run for the Wildcats.
