Indians to face own team in D6 title

MIFFLINTOWN — It will be an all Juniata finals as the Indians took care of business during the District 6 Class 2A doubles tennis tournament on Tuesday.

The duo of Max Lauver and Adam French won their first match in straight sets against Richland’s Murad and Schmouder in the quarterfinals 6-1 and 6-0. Then in the semi-finals, Lauver and French defeated the team of Snee and Long again in straight sets winning both sets by the final score of 6-0.

Gavin Kint and Jack Strawser found themselves in a tough matchup against Pelkey and Harman of Huntingdon in a quarter-final match. Kint and Strawser took the first set 6-4 before Pelkey and Harman even the series with a 6-4 win of their own in the second set.

Then in the third and final set, it went down to the wire but eventually Kint and Strawser powered past Pelkey and Harman 7-5 to advance.

Then in their semi-final match, Kint and Strawser defeated the team of Lewis and Rabbe of Tyrone in straight sets winning the first set 6-4 before closing it out 6-2 in the second set.

Lauver and French will meet teammates Kint and Strawser in the finals today.

Softball

Upper Dauphin 4, Juniata 3

ELIZABETHVILLE–Liz Gaisior struck out 17 batters, but a four-run bottom of the seventh inning allowed the Trojans to walk off with a win. Gaisior also went 2-for-4 at the plate, with two doubles and a run.

Mackenzie Lyter recorded the only RBI for the Indians, finishing 1-for-3 at bat. Shalelyn Armstrong went an impressive 3-for-3, with three singles in the loss.

Juniata (3-10) returns to action Thursday against Millersburg.

Track and field

Girls: Hollidaysburg 98, Bellefonte 38, East Juniata 13

Boys: Hollidaysburg 67, Bellefonte 47, East Juniata 36

BELLEFONTE — The East Juniata track team fell to Hollidaysburg and Bellefonte in a non-conference tri-meet on Tuesday afternoon at Bellefonte.

The Tigers had five victories on the day with Rowan Smith picking up three of them himself, winning the 110 hurdles (16.71 seconds), 300 hurdles (41.46 seconds) and winning the high jump, clearing 6 feet, 4 inches.

Brody Powell won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:11.08 while Logan Strawser won the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:16.38.

Junior High Girls soccer

Mifflin County 1, East Juniata 1

COCOLAMUS – Mifflin County and East Juniata tied in a junior high girls soccer match Tuesday.

At 15:15, Madalynne Carolus found an open Danielle Warfel who processed to knock in the goal.

Ciara Williams and Nessa Lust combined for a total of 10 saves in the net.
