Hayden, Trent Hidlay among top seeds at ACC Championship

RALEIGH — North Carolina State and former Mifflin County High School wrestlers Hayden and Trent Hidlay once again find themselves in similar situations entering the 2021 ACC Wrestling Championships that will take place on Sunday at NC State’s Reynolds’ Coliseum.

Hayden Hidlay, ranked No. 2 in the country at 157 pounds, is the top seed in his bracket while Trent, No. 3 nationally, is the No. 2 seed at 184 pounds behind Virginia Tech’s Hunter Bolen. Bolen and Trent met in the ACC Championship match a season ago with Bolen picking up a narrow 2-1 decision for the ACC title last year. Trent is 4-1 this season.

Hayden enters the championships having won three-straight ACC crowns –he is just one of 11 Wolfpack wrestlers to ever accomplish the feat. Hidlay also remains unbeaten in ACC action throughout his college career at 27-0. Hidlay is 8-0 on the season.

Both wrestlers receive first-round byes in the tournament. Hayden will face the winner of Brandon LaRue (Duke) and Josh McClure (UNC). Trent will face the winner of Devin Kane (UNC) and Vincent Baker (Duke).
