Indians split road Tri-Valley League meet

HERNDON — The Juniata wrestling team split a pair of matches in a Tri-Valley League tri-meet on Wednesday night at Line Mountain High School. The Indians topped Susquenita 35-30 and dropped a 65-6 match to Line Mountain.

Juniata’s Taylor Smith (113) was the lone wrestler to go undefeated for the Indians on Wednesday, as he picked up a pair of falls on the night, defeating Line Mountain’s Brody Long and Susquenita’s Kale Quigley. Smith had the lone win for Juniata against Line Mountain.

Jonathan Kauffman (285), Casey Smith (106), Cameron Sweigart (126), Josh Bomberger (152), Kobe Bonnell (172) and Domink Rowles (189) all scored victories against Susquenita for the Indians. Sweigart, Kauffman, Bonnell and Rowles all scored bonus points in victories.

The Indians return to the mat on Jan. 27, as the Indians travel to Upper Dauphin at 7 p.m.

Meadowbrook 55, JCS 52

MILTON — Juniata Christian used a late scoring run but couldn’t complete the comeback as the Lions fell to Meadowbrook Christian, 55-52, in an Allegheny Christian Athletic Association contest on Tuesday night.

The Lions trailed 43-36 entering the fourth quarter and poured in 16 points in the final frame, but were unable to overcome the deficit.

Juniata Christian was led by Luke Sheaffer’s 17 points, along with Trey Tusing and Nevin Yorks who both chipped in 13 points in the loss. Meadowbrook Christian’s Ashton Canelo scored a game-high 22 points in the victory.

The Lions couldn’t take advantage of Meadowbrook Christian foul trouble, as the Lions went just 13-of-29 at the free-throw line.

Juniata Christian School (2-3) travel to Calvary Christian Academy today. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.

Midd-West 32

MIDDLEBURG — The Midd-West girls basketball team fell behind early and never recovered as rival Selinsgrove received 17 points from Lexy Gabrielson in a 60-32 victory over the Mustangs in a Heartland Athletic Conference Division I matchup on Tuesday night.

The Mustangs trailed 36-18 at the half and couldn’t cut into the deficit for most of the night. The Seals scored just six points in the fourth but held a commanding 54-22 advantage through three quarters.

Rylee Shawver led the way for Midd-West, scoring 10 points in the loss. Sage Phillips added six for the Mustangs.

Midd-West returns to play on Friday when it travels to Jersey Shore for a PHAC-I matchup.
