Trojans boys XC picks up solid win

ALEXANDRIA–Mount Union cross country took on Juniata Valley in a meet on Wednesday afternoon. The boys team won their match 24-31 while the girls team had just three runners and lost 15-50.

Setting the pace for the boys team was Hunter Flagle who finished second in the match with a time of 20:22. Following closely behind were Bryce Beatty and Ryan Plank who also finished with sub-21:00 times, at 20:27 and 20:53 respectively. Beatty finished third and Plank finished fifth. Caden Chilcote and Aveyen Chilcote rounded out the Trojans score by coming in sixth and eighth with times of 21:10 and 22:09, respectively.

Stephanie Long had the best time of the girls runners, coming in at 33:51. Karrigan Woodward and Celia Stever each finished with a time of 35:39.

Girl tennis

Cedar Cliff 4, Mifflin County 1

LEWISTOWN–Mifflin County girls tennis played tough in its 4-1 loss to Cedar Cliff on Wednesday. The Huskies’ lone win came from Jalynn Yoder who cruised past Rachel Smith 6-2, 6-1. In the District Doubles match Mifflin County’s Sydney Kyle and Yoder pulled off a huge win, knocking off Anna Arnsdorfe and Kayla Cordera by a score of 8-1.

Olivia Kahley pushed Cedar Cliff’s number one Lauren Giovagnoli, but fell 6-3, 7-5. Arnsdorfe defeated Kyle 6-1, 6-2 to round out the singles matches.

In the doubles, the Mifflin County team of Skye Curry and Izzy Wagner lost 6-2, 6-0. Lily Riden and Aija Binder almost picked up the Huskies’ second win of the match, pushing Cedar Cliff’s duo of Morgan Farera and Brooke Over to a third set tiebreaker. Yoder and Binder fell 6-4, 4-6, 10-7.

Mifflin County returns to action today when they host Carlise at 4 p.m.

Golf

Bellefonte 6.5, Mifflin County 2.5

MINGOVILLE-In a new format, Mifflin County golf played match play instead of stroke play. Owen Wise and Cole Chilson picked up wins for the Huskies, who fell to Bellefonte 6.5-2.5. Tanner Ferguson earned half a point tying his opponent.

Owen Mock and Bradyn Eversole each lost their matches by a hole.

To end the day, the six golfers were paired up and played another match against the Red Raiders’ pairs. The team of Wise and Mock lost by four holes. Eversole and Schnell also lost by four holes and Ferguson and Chilson lost by one hole.

” Despite the final score, the match was very competitive, and came right down to the final few holes with the Red Raiders pulling it out late,” coach Aaron Bubb said.

The loss makes Mifflin County 3-16 overall on the season. The Huskies will be back in action on Friday at Mechanicsburg.

Midd-West 176, Milton 182

MILTON–The Mustangs continued their winning ways, topping Milton at Wynding Brook Golf Club by a score of 176 to 182 on Wednesday. Jullian Krainak shot an even par 35 in the nine-hole match to fuel Midd-West’s win.

The Mustangs played solidly behind Krainak as Kyle Beward shot a 44, Nick Whitesel shot a 45 and Caroline Zerbe rounded out the scoring with a 52.

Noah Bogush and Austin Bogush shot 56 and 58, respectively.
