Mifflin County drops its tennis match to Palmyra

PALMYRA – The Mifflin County girls tennis team fell 5-0 to Palmyra in a Mid-Penn Conference girls tennis match on Tuesday.

The Huskies’ Olivia Kahley fell to Allison Yap, 6-1,6-1 in No. 1 singles, while Sydney Kyle fell, 6-0, 6-1 to Nitya Patel in No. 2 singles.

Jalynn Yoder fell to Bryn McCafferty in No. 3 singles, 6-0, 7-5.

Izzy Wagner and Skye Curry fell in No. 1 doubles while Lily Riden and Aija Binder lost in No. 2 doubles.

The Huskies return to action today at State College.

Line Mountain 1

HERNDON — Victory Frantz powered the Indians offense over Line Mountain, 3-1, in a Tri-Valley League girls soccer game Tuesday.

Frantz dropped two goals for the Indians and Katey Martin added the third goal in the game.

Juniata (1-0) return to action on Thursday when it hosts Millersburg.

MIFFLINTOWN — Will Orwig and Tanner Barth powered East Juniata passed Millersburg and Newport to win a TVL golf match at Lost Creek Golf Course Tuesday.

Orwig shot a 74 for the Tigers while Barth added a 76.

East Juniata returns to play on Thursday at Newport.

MIDDLEBURG — The Midd-West boys soccer team protected its home turf on Tuesday, using a first-half goal by Preston Arbogast to defeat Jersey Shore.

Arbogast’s goal came in the 37th minute of the contest and was assisted by Easton Erb.

Midd-West returns to play on Saturday when it travels to Bloomsburg.

SUSQUENITA – The Greenwood boys soccer team used two first half goals to top the Blackhawks, 2-1 in a Tri-Valley boys soccer matchup on Tuesday.

Danny Capozzoli scored in the opening minute, while Avery Morder converted a penalty kick in the 32nd minute to lift the Wildcats past Susquenita.

Greenwood won the JV game, 10-0.

The Wildcats return to action on Thursday when they travel to East Juniata.

Mount Union 0

FLINTON –Mount Union was swept in straight sets by Glendale on Tuesday in an Inter-County Conference volleyball match as the Trojans dropped three sets, 25-15, 25-10 and 25-13.

Morgan Brumbaugh led the Trojans with four kills. Kaitlyn Arnold recorded 13 digs and Kadyn Crisswell tallied 10 assists.

Mount Union hosts West Branch today.

Girls soccer

Juniata Mennonite 5, Grace Prep 1

STATE COLLEGE — Peyton Burd and Annika Martin carried Juniata Mennonite past Grace Prep 5-1 in an Allegheny Christian Association girls soccer game on Monday.

“We started off a little slow in the first half but picked up our intensity in the second half,” Lions coach Todd Taylor said. “Peyton and Annika started to work well together in the middle of the second half to produce two nice goals.”

Burd scored two goals in the game for the Lions as Martin assisted on both of them. Martin had a goal in the game as well. Erin Sheaffer and Emily Moyer both scored their first goals of the year.

MOUNT UNION — The Mount Union boys soccer team received two goals from Ian Brodbeck and a third from Ryan Dountas in a 3-2 victory over St. Joseph’s on Monday. Hunter Flagle added an assist for Mount Union.

The Trojans’ Trevor Skopic was a brick wall in net, recording 17 saves in the victory.

Mount Union hosts Northern Bedford today.

Loyalsock 1 (OT)

WILLIAMSPORT– After falling behind, Midd-West battled back to force overtime and netted a game winner to top Loyalsock 2-1 in a PHAC boys soccer game Monday.

Owen Solomon scored with some help from Nicholas Eppley and Trey Wagner to even the game at one apiece. Then in overtime Wagner found Nolan Stahl who netted the overtime goal.

Julian Krainak led the Mustangs, shooting a 45 and Nick Whitesel shot a 46 for the match.
