JMS nets late PK to edge St. Joes

McALISTERVILLE–The Juniata Mennonite Lions won a back and forth battle against Saint Joseph’s, fighting back for the 5-4 win. Annika Martin won the game for the Lions as she scored on a penalty kick with udner 15 minutes remaining.

Martin scored twice while Peyton Burd, Erin Sheaffer and Reanna Hoover each put one in the net for the Lions.

Going into the second half, the game was tied at two when Saint Joseph’s took the lead. The Lions responded with two goals of their own to take a 4-3 lead. Saint’ Joseph’s tied the game before Martin hit the game-winner.

“Our girls played well for a complete game for the second night in a row. The conditions were wet and sloppy, but we handled them pretty well,” coach Todd Taylor said. “Our midfield and strikers were much more creative in our buildup and finishes and our defense held up when we needed them to.”

JMS returns to action on Thursday when they host Lancaster Country Christian at 3 p.m.

Boys soccer

HARRISBURG–The Mifflin County boys soccer team fell to Chambersburg by a 1-0 final in their matchup on Thursday afternoon.

No statistical information was provided. Mifflin County hosts Mechanicsburg on Thursday.

Harrisburg Academy 1, Belleville Mennonite 0

HARRISBURG–The Belleville Mennonite boys soccer team gave up a goal with 27:11 in the first half and was unable to score in a 1-0 loss to Harrisburg Academy on Tuesday in an ACAA boys soccer contest.

Jake Duarte scored the lone goal in the contest. The Thunder received five saves from Aiden Reed in the contest.

The Thunder (3-3-1, 3-2-1) travel to Meadowbrook Christian on Thursday.

Girls volleyball

Northern Dauphin Christian School 3, East Juniata 0

MILLERSBURG–The East Juniata girls volleyball team fell in straight sets to Northern Dauphin Christian School. The scores of the match were 25-11, 25-11. 25-6.

Angelica Ybarra led the team with 4 digs and a block while Hope Lightner had three digs and the lone Tigers’ kill.

East Juniata plays at Juniata on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Claysburg-Kimmel 3, Mount Union 0

CLAYSBURG–The Mount Union girls volleyball team fell in straight sets to Claysburg-Kimmel 3-0 in an Inter-County Conference volleyball match on Tuesday.

Mount Union dropped set scores 21-25, 20-25 and 20-25.

Taylor Grove had 13 service points, Camille Posey had five kills and Kadyn Crisswell added 13 assists. Kaitlin Arnold had 15 digs in the loss.

Mount Union hosts Bellwood-Antis on Thursday.
