EJ posts decisive win over Eagles

HERNDON — Kierstyn Fogle picked up right where she left off on Tuesday night as she poured it on with five goals at East Juniata cruised to a 9-4 victory over Line Mountain in a Tri-Valley League girls soccer contest on Wednesday night.

East Juniata (2-0, 2-0 TVL) scored six goals in the opening half as Fogle found the back of the net four times in the half. She also chipped in two assists. In two games, Fogle has scored nine times.

Amara Brubaker scored twice, while Marisa Coudriet and Leah Sankey also scored for the Tigers. Sankey and Brianna Henry also added assists.

The Tigers host Altoona on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Midd-West 2, Shamokin 0

SHAMOKIN –The Midd-West girls soccer team used two first half goals to blow by Shamokin, 2-0 in a Heartland Athletic Conference contest on Wednesday night.

Lilly Shutt scored in the 18th minute while Makenna Dietz scored in the 29th minute. Dietz assisted on Shutt’s goal.

Midd-West’s keepers were kept fairly rested in the victory, as Leah Ferster and Rylee Weaver each made one save.

The Mustangs return to play today when they host Jersey Shore at 7 p.m.

DUNCANNON — The Juniata boys soccer team fell behind early and was unable to recover from a four-goal deficit in a 4-1 defeat to the Blackhawks on Wednesday afternoon.

Juniata (1-1, 1-1 TVL) scored with 16:22 remaining in regulation as Bryce Rush scored his first goal of the year on an assist by Henry Montoya. The Indians failed to match Susquenita on offense and an own-goal with 26:37 left in the second half gave the Blackhawks a sizable 3-0 advantage.

The Indians travel to face Tyrone at noon on Saturday.

MIFFLINTOWN — The Juniata volleyball team topped Sugar Valley in a thrilling season opener on Wednesday night as the Indians posted set scores of 26-24, 24-26, 25-22, 25-23.

The highly competitive match was led by the stellar play of Juniata’s setters, as Mackenzie Bennett and Alexea Frontz excelled in the victory. Bennett recorded 39 assists while Frontz added 31 of her own in the victory.

Bennett also led Juniata in kills with five and had four aces. Imaryilis Mercado also recorded five kills and a team-high eight digs and five aces.

Juniata (1-0) hosts Shamokin today.

Northern Dauphin Christian 3, East Juniata 0

COCOLAMUS — The East Juniata girls volleyball team fell in its season opener on Wednesday night as Northern Dauphin Christian won the non-conference match in straight sets at East Juniata.

Set scores were 16-25, 10-25 and 19-25 in favor of Northern Dauphin Christian.

Angelica Ybarra and Natayla Grandos-Vore each recorded two kills. Ybara posted three aces, and two blocks. Isabel Naylor led the Tigers with three digs.

East Juniata hosts Upper Dauphin today.

PALMYRA — The Mifflin County golf team traveled to Royal Oaks Golf Club for a Mid-Penn Keystone Division match on Wednesday. The Huskies went 1-5 on the day, shooting a 408 as a team.

Mifflin County (11-26,11-25 Mid-Penn) was led by Bryson Bubb who shot a 95, while Blake Stringfellow shot a 96 for Mifflin County. Ryan Hine followed with a 107 while James Stringfellow recorded a 110.

Mifflin County will compete in the District 6 Class 3A sectional tournament today at Sinking Valley Country Club in Altoona.

Girls tennis

State College 5, Mifflin County 0

STATE COLLEGE — The Mifflin County girls tennis team fell to State College, 6-0 in a Mid-Penn match on Wednesday afternoon.

Marissa Xu defeated Olivia Kahley, 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 singles, while Sydney Kyle fell to Sruthi Ramesh, 6-0, 6-2 in No. 2 singles for the Huskies. Madeline Miller defeated Jalynn Yoder 6-1, 6-0.

Kelly Steel and Rachel Butterball defeated Izzy Wagner and Skye Curry in No. 1 doubles, 6-1, 6-0, while Keya Ahrestani and Emily Zhang defeated Lily Riden and Aija Binder, 6-3, 6-3 in No. 2 doubles.

Mifflin County hosts Northern York today and will host Mechanicsburg on Friday.
