Huskies use fast start to edge Central Dauphin East

From staff reports

HARRISBURG — The Mifflin County girls basketball team used a 26-point first quarter to gain some separation and held on for a 60-57 win over Central Dauphin East in Harrisburg on Monday night in a Mid-Penn Commonwealth contest.

Brianna Bodtorf scored 11 of her 19 points in the opening frame and Marissa Gingrich hit a pair of 3-pointers in the quarter on her way to 21 points to lead Mifflin County.

“After a 26-point first quarter [CD East] played very well there,” Mifflin County coach Roger Herto said. “We had a lead and kept it through the first half. In the second half things started changing. The bucket shrunk and they took it to us. Skye Ewings had 15 of her 23 in the second half.”

The Huskies survived behind clutch free-throws in the final quarter, hitting eight shots at the line to seal the victory.

“Have to give a lot of credit to our kids,” Herto said. “They really stuck with it and spread out the offense. I told them in practice that I like any game that we hit free throws. We were great down the stretch. Marissa and Bri were a good 1-2 punch. Marissa not only hit 3-pointesrs but handled the ball well. Really happy to get this win at CD East. We have this road trip and our goal is to get all three. “You can’t get all three if you can’t get the first. Proud of them for getting this win.”

The Huskies won the JV game 46-32. Tessa Pavlova led Mifflin County with 14 points.
