Juniata represented in All-Stars
MIFFLINTOWN – The Juniata football team put five players on the Tri-Valley League All-Star team for the 2019 season.
Seniors Stephen Ranck, Tad Shellenberger, Jamie Bailer and Ty Martin along with sophomore Jordan Cruz represent the Indians chosen by the league coaches.
Bailer made the first team as a punter with an average of 36 yards per game. Shellenberger, the all-time leading goal scorer in Juniata soccer history, made the second team at kicker, averaging 45 yard per kickoff and making 14-of-17 extra points.
Ranck made the TVL All-Stars on offense and defense – earning second team honors at tight end with 21 receptions for 301 yards and five touchdowns. This marks the third consecutive year Juniata placed a tight end on the all-star team. Juniata College standout Ben Lauver was all-TVL for two years.
Ranck received honorable mention at defensive back. The senior had 42 tackles and two interceptions.
Martin (linebacker) and Cruz (offensive tackle) earned honorable mention status as well. Martin collected 40 tackles on the season and Cruz was a rock of stability on the offensive line.
Macklin Ayers of Upper Dauphin earned TVL Player of the Year honors with Kent Smeltz (UDA) and Frank Gaffney shared Coach of the Year honors.
Juniata went 4-7 and 4-5 in the TVL. The Indians lost to Clearfield in the District 6 Class 4A playoffs.
