Eagles close out with win

SHINDLE — Mifflin County Christian Academy’s girls soccer team finished the season Monday with a 3-1 victory over Centre County Christian Academy.

The first goal came just three minutes into the game when Jill Hart sent a well-placed ball to Megan Weyant, who found the back of the net. In the 16th minute Weyant was on the giving end as she crossed a ball from the right corner that Leia Gentzel finished off.

The third goal for the Eagles came about 25 minutes in when Lilly Todd sent a ball ahead to Gentzel, who found the back of the net for her second goal to put the Eagles up 3-0.

Centre County added its lone goal late in the second half to make the final.

The Eagles finished their season with an 8-3 record. Senior captains Ashlyn Ort and Davi Ort were recognized on senior night.


Penns Valley 3, Mifflin County 1

SPRING MILLS — Mifflin County bounced back from a troubling first set to win the second, but Penns Valley took over after that and won a nonleague volleyball match between the two, 3-1.

The match ends Mifflin County’s season.

Against the Rams, Mifflin County got eight kills and two blocks from Audrey Jordan and 20 assists from Gianna Hoppel. Kiana Sechler’s five kills and four from McKenna Seese, who also had a block and an ace, were among the statistical leaders. Kashia Smith had 10 assists along with three kills and a pair of aces.

Penns Valley also won the JV match, 2-1 (25-19, 23-25, 15-9).

PIAA Class 2A tournament

YORK — Mount Union’s Trey Heffelfinger stands in 23rd place among 36 golfers contending for state hardware after the first round of the PIAA Class 2A golf championship Monday at Heritage Hills Resort.

The second round will be played today with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start due to anticipated weather.

Heffelfinger, whose fiurst-day score was a 12-over 83, has to make up 11 strokes to catch the leaders. Three golfers are tied for first at 72 — the course is a Par 71: Vam Colbert of Hickory, Elijah Ruppert of Brandywine Heights and Skyler Fox of Riverside.
