Post 287 steamrolls to final four

From staff reports

LATROBE –In a game lasting just shy of an hour and a half, Milroy Post 287 rolled to a convincing 9-1 win, Saturday over Punxsutawney Post 62 at the Region 7 American Legion Tournament.

Colby Bodtorf threw a complete game, five-hitter, allowing two walks while striking out three batters. Post 62 scored their lone run in the top of the fourth to bring Post 287’s lead down to 3-1.

But Bodtorf took command of the game as he allowed just two base runners over the next 3.1 innings. Post 287 played sterling defense, turning 3 double plays and not committing an error in the dominant victory.

Post 287 put the game away with scoring bursts in fifth and sixth inning. The duo of Bodtorf and Max Oburn were key in both innings. The pair would each single and score a run in the fifth. In the sixth, an Oburn double knocked in two runs while Bodtorf picked up his third RBI of the game.

Both Oburn and Bodtorf finished the game with three hits.

Post 287 clinched a spot in the Region 7 final four behind the brilliant pitching of Brian Yetter who threw 6.1 innings of three-hit baseball, not allowing a run while striking out 13 batters. Yetter did not let the weather disrupt this rhythm. The game which started at 2 p.m. was delayed due to rain and moved to a secondary location to be completed. The game resumed at 8 and concluded before 10 p.m.

Post 287 got on the board in the top of the second inning with a suicide squeeze by Connor Yoder, for the 1-0 lead. Post 287 added three runs in the fourth when Ethan Eichhorn started the rally with a double and Evan Mauk contributed with a two-RBI base hit. Yetter controlled the tempo of the game from the very start. He was unable to register a complete game due to pitch count but Eichhorn fanned final two batters for final two out to secure victory.

“Were playing at an extremely high level throughout this tournament. And the pitching performance today was nothing less than outstanding by Brian Yetter,” coach Howard said.

Post 287 now awaits the winner of Hempfield East and Latrobe. Post 287 scheduled to play the winner of that game at 5:00 pm today.
