Post 287 claims two victories

Elkins W. Va — Ethan Eichorn scattered four hits over 6 2/3 innings to lead Post 287 to an opening game win over Fairmont West Virginia Post 17, 4-3 on Friday morning in an American Legion baseball game. The game was not a league game.

With the tying run on third base and two outs in the top of the seventh inning, Colby Bodtorf recorded a save by enducing a line drive to second baseman Noah Wright.

Post 287 broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fifth. With a man on second base, Max Oburn beat out a bunt single and Bodtorf followed with a two-run single. Wright added an RBI on a groundout and Mifflin County led 4-1. Post 17 managed to rally in the seventh inning and parlayed a walk and two hits into two runs before Bodtorf shut the door. The win moved Mifflin County to 4-1 overall. Post 287 remains at 3-1 in league play.

Tyreen Smalley fired a complete-game four hitter and Mifflin County Post 287 blasted its way to a convincing 11-1 victory over Caredo-Kenova Post 93 of West Virginia on Friday afternoon in a non-league matchup.

Backed by a 10-hit attack and sterling defense, Mifflin County ended the contest with a six-run sixth inning. OffensivelyEthan Eichorn carried the big stick with two doubles and three RBIs. Jaxson Pupo also had a pair of hits and contributed two RBIs.

Smalley stole the show on the mound. After yielding a second inning run, he stranded two runners and allowed only two other runners to reach base. One was erased trying to stretch a single into a double by a lazor throw from Bodtorf in center field. Oburn erased the other in a 5-3 double play.

Post 287 returns to action with a 9 a.m. Saturday contest with Florida Gulf Coast. They play later on Saturday against Buckhannon Post 7. Mifflin County improved to 5-1, 3-1 in league play.
