Great week for McVeytown

MCVEYTOWN — For most teams in the Mifflin County Babe Ruth League it wasn’t a very good week — most of the games were rained out.

But one team had a great week — McVeytown. On Monday, McVeytown beat one of the top teams in the league, Beaver Springs, and on Friday, McVeytown downed the No. 2 team in the standings, Reedsville, 12-2, in six innings.

The two-time defending league champions are the first team to reach 10 wins with a 10-3 record. It holds a game and a half lead over Reedsville for first place.

On Monday, Beaver Springs was limited it to one hit and on Friday, Reedsville just got three.

Eli Pennebaker started and got the win. He pitched into third inning giving up one run on no hits. He walked four and struck out seven. Jaron Yoder finished and gave up the other run on three hits. He struck out two and walked four.

Josh Bomberger lashed out three hits for McVeytown as he knocked in five runs including a key two run double in the fifth when McVeytown went up 10-2.

Ben Fry chipped in two doubles as McVeytown finished with eight hits.

McVeytown took care of Reedsville with two runs in the sixth as Fry had an RBI double and Isaac Wilson ended the game with a bases loaded single giving his team a 10 run lead.

Reedsville had three hits, all singles from Cole Chilson, Zach Williams and Jake Sheaffer.

Lewistown 19, Strodes Mills 5

LEWISTOWN — Lewistwon snapped a four game losing streak and got revenge on its arch rival, Strodes Mills.

Lewistown won 19-5 in five innings due to the 10-run rule.

Drake Schaeffer picked up the win for Lewistown as he went three innings. The 15-year-old struck out three walked, three and gave up just two hits. Ryan Hine, a rookie, closed out the win for Lewistown with two innings of work. Hine had four strike outs.

Lewistown scored 11 times in the second inning to take control of the game. In the second, Lewistown had six hits, four walks and a hit batter. Deakon Schaeffer hit a double in the second.

Braden Sheaffer had an excellent day at the plate with four hits.

Strodes Mills only had three hits — two singles from Bradyn Eversole and Isaiah Alters and a triple from Tyler Hunter.

Burnham 19, Belltown 3

BELLTOWN — Burnham pounded out 15 hits including five doubles on its way to a 19-3 win over Belltown. The game ended after five innings due to the 10 run rule.

Levi Terry led the Burnham offense with three hits and a double. Xavier Smith had two hits and one of his went for two bases. Both of Reagan Ettinger’s smashes were doubles and Daniel Ritter also had a double for the winners.

Landon Black and Gavin Knode each had two hits for Burnham.

Belltown also had a good night hitting doubles as half of its six hits went for two bases. Dylan Zellers had two doubles and J.P. Pannizzo also had a double. Zellers and Pannizzo each had two hits.

Milroy 4, Belleville 3

MILROY — Milroy scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to edge Belleville, 4-3.

In the seventh, Hunter Marks walked and after one out, Anson Wagner drew an intentional walk. Alex Kline then singled Marks home and Ryan Esh got the winning hit with single over the Belleville first baseman into right field.

Wagner went the distance for Milroy as he struck out eight, walked two and gave up six hits. Luke Lyter had half of the Belleville hits. Noah Sharp put Belleville a head with an RBI single in the sixth.

Milroy finished with eight hits with Kline and Esh each getting two.

It was Milroy’s first win of the season over Belleville. The Big Valley club won the other two games.
