LEWISTOWN — Mifflin County Huskies’ pitcher Hanna Kanagy was selected to the 2017 All-State softball team that was named by the Pennsylvania High School Softball Coaches Association.

Kanagy, a junior in the 2017 season, previously named the Mid-Penn Conference MVP and was also selected to the District 6 coaches all-star team, adding another award for the trophy case.

“She had a fantastic year,” Huskies coach Jack McCurdy praised. “I’m excited for her, it’s a great opportunity for her. She is well deserving.”

Kanagy was a terror in the circle to opposing batters through out the entire season. In the 22 games Mifflin County played this season, Kanagy pitched in 19, composing a win loss record of 15-4 plus had one save. Kanagy pitched 133 2/3 innings allowing just 113 hits and 61 runs — and only 46 of them were earned, giving her an ERA of 2.409. She showed great control rarely walking batters giving up 40 walks for the season while striking out 119.

“She has done a great job as our No. 1 pitcher,” McCurdy said.

She also was a major threat at the plate as well for the Huskies. In the 20 games in which she batted Kanagy had 24 hits out of 62 at-bats for a batting average of .387. Kanagy had 17 singles, five doubles and collected two triples while having 18 RBIs and scoring five runs.

“She was a definete key to our success this past year,” McCurdy said. “Hanna was a threat for offense being our No. 4 hitter. (It was) just a great all round year for her.”

Kanagy was one of two area players to achieve all-state status on two different teams distributed by two organizations. The PHSSBCA has had an all-state team for several years. The Pennsylvania Softball Coaches Association (PSBCA) named its first squad this year, which included Mount Union’s Diana Roher.
