Natalia Alicea, right, of New York City, gives Leah Wise a big hug as Alicea arrives to spend two weeks with the Wise family in Blain as part of the Fresh Air Fund program. Children from the city arrived to visit with families from Juniata and Perry counties Thursday at The Red Zone in Mifflintown.
The Fresh Air Fund is a non-profit organization which for 137 years has been setting up summer vacations for children from New York City. These are children who may not get a vacation or even a day out of the city in the summer.
If you would like to host a child for next summer, call Lewistown Chair Kay Smith at 717-994-4998; Belleville Chair LaCosta Spickler at 717-437-0668; Juniata County Chair Dana VanHorn at 717-463-3342 or Big Valley Fund Representative Mary Henry at 717-899-6416 to set up your family’s interview to share in the Fresh Air experience or visit for more information.
